Check out this great article from ESPN Action Sports about the A.Skate Foundation, a non-profit organization whose goal is to raise awareness about autism in the skateboard community.A.Skate founder Chrys Worley attests that “We have yet to have even one child that doesn’t respond well to the clinics.” The good people at A.Skate have found that every child that has participated in skateboarding with their organization has been drawn to it, and have most often been made “instantly happy.” Autism is typically characterized by a lack of extroverted behavior, and parents are finding that their children have an easier time “coming out of their shells” and interacting with others while skating.This is no wonder, as positive effects of kinesthetic activities on autism have previously been recognized in surfing.
